Once you’ve booked a break away, the next question is - what will you wear? Whether taking hand luggage only or checking-in your whole wardrobe, these hacks will make holiday packing a breeze. With clever planning you’ll make your budget go further too (who doesn’t want to have more cash for cocktails?!)
No one wants their holiday outfits to look crumpled, but rolling your clothes, instead of folding them, will keep creases at bay. Hang as much as you can in your hotel bathroom when you’re having a steamy shower, to help wrinkles drop out.
Choose a colour palette for every trip to give you a coherent, styled look. Navy, white and red is a classic combination but black with bright accents looks fresh and tan and cream is particularly on-trend for 2022.
Avoid over-packing (and excess baggage charges) by always packing in outfits. Plan what you’ll wear each day - and night - and stick to it. For each bottom (shorts, trousers or skirts) take two tops. Instead of extra evening clothes, pack some fun jewellery to make your daytime outfits after-dark appropriate. Jewellery takes up less space in your case and Coast and Karen Millen have a dazzling selection right now.
Packing cubes (pictured above) are a game-changer for keeping outfits together. Bonus: they also keep dirty laundry separate. Find them at Amazon and John Lewis.
If you’re heading on city-based mini-break, one pair of shorts, a day-to-night dress, and either a breezy skirt or wide leg trousers will see you through four days. Add a t-shirt and blouse, a light blazer and perhaps a fine knit jumper and you’re good to go. Ganni is the style set’s top pick for statement dresses which will add extra glamour to your suitcase.
The shops are full of summery garments right now, but Marks & Spencer’s summer shop is a year-round destination for swimwear and Net-a-porter.com’s designer treats are a must-browse.
For a beach-side week away, take the items above then add another dress, two more tops and two bikinis or swimming costumes. ASOS have a huge selection of swimwear that suit every body shape from hourglass, bigger busts, petite or curve sizes. Crinkled fabric is 2022’s biggest trend for swimwear while Anthropologie is ideal for bohemian holiday dresses that are having a major moment. Searching out discount codes on brands you love is a clever way to make your money go further too.
If you’re lucky enough to be jetting off on a fortnight’s get-away, you can still work with the packing list above! Always rinse your swimwear after use to remove chlorine or salt water (it will make them last longer) and either bring a mini bottle of detergent or get familiar with the hotel laundry.
Add this summer’s essential straw basket (try H&M), a bucket hat (from Urban Outfitters) and sporty sandals (we love the styles at Dune) and your holiday packing is done!
Don't forget to check out our article about building a capsule wardrobe - it'll help you not only save money but packing space too. Before you start your packing why not have a look at the latest fashion deals and discount codes to see if you can save money on holiday fashion essentials.
