Is Christmas an important time for Make-A-Wish?

"Yes, Christmas is an incredibly important time for Make-A-Wish. During the festive season, we see increased requests for wishes as families look to make the holidays extra special for their children facing critical illnesses. Christmas represents a time of hope, joy, and togetherness, which becomes even more meaningful when dealing with serious medical conditions. We launch special Christmas campaigns every year, inviting supporters to donate and help grant wishes in time for the holidays.

The magic of Christmas is truly alive in the wishes we grant during this period, whether it's delivering a child's dream gift, arranging a magical winter experience, or helping a family come together for a special celebration. In addition to granting wishes, Christmas is a key time for fundraising because it’s a time of generosity, raising vital funds that ensure we can grant as many wishes as possible during the holiday season and beyond."

What has been your biggest challenge this year, and what are your ambitions for 2025?

"Managing the rising demand for wishes while balancing the growing complexity and costs of granting them has been challenging. Many of the wishes involve travel, special equipment, or large-scale events, and rising costs have made it more difficult to deliver these wishes in the way we want to. However, thanks to the incredible dedication of our supporters, volunteers, and partners, we've been able to keep granting life-changing wishes, even in this difficult climate, but there’s still so much more to do.

Looking ahead to next year, our ambition is to reach even more children and grant more wishes than ever before. We aim to reduce the waiting time for families by growing our volunteer network and expanding partnerships with businesses that can help us deliver these magical experiences. We’re also committed to raising awareness about a wish's positive, long-lasting impact, not just for the child but the entire family."

Can you share any stories or examples of how Make-A-Wish has made a difference?

"In 2024, Make-A-Wish has continued to make an extraordinary difference in the lives of children and their families by granting life-changing wishes. One example that stands out is the wish of 7-year-old Avia, who was diagnosed with a kidney tumour. Avia wished to become a princess for the day, and Make-A-Wish made that wish a reality. She was transformed into a princess, complete with her own beautiful gown, and enjoyed a magical day filled with fun activities, including a royal tea party and a horse-drawn carriage ride. In addition to the heartwarming individual wishes, Make-A-Wish continued to expand our partnerships and community outreach efforts, allowing us to support even more children facing critical illnesses. Wish Maker Days are a notable initiative that brings communities, businesses, and schools together to fundraise and sponsor wishes."
