Sign up to support Make-A-WishWith Christmas just around the corner, it’s only natural that thoughts turn to having fun and spending quality time with our families. But every day, children have their childhood stolen by critical illness. Make-A-Wish believes that a child's life shouldn't be defined by illness, hospitals and diagnosis, and it achieves that by granting wishes. But the charity cannot do it without the generous support of the general public and businesses.
From the gift of a sensory toy for a child with complex needs to meeting a child’s favourite TV character, every child in the UK who is fighting a critical illness can be nominated for a wish that will provide happy memories for the entire family at a time of uncertainty. Make-A-Wish works tirelessly to ensure that each wish is as individual and memorable as one of the 63,000 children in the UK who have a life-limiting or life-threatening condition.

Make-A-Wish Q&A
We reached out to Make-A-Wish to find out what the current priorities are, and to understand how Christmas affects the charity.
Are you running a special campaign for Christmas 2023, and what are your priorities?
“Acquisition of new supporters is always important, and Christmas presents an opportunity for Make-A-Wish to appeal to people’s generosity during the season of goodwill. We are currently seeing a sharp rise in the number of children coming to us with less than a year to live, so just imagine how hard it is for a critically ill child whose only wish is to live to see this Christmas.
“Leo was only five weeks old when he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, leaving him with brain damage and severe disabilities. Overnight, the family’s world was turned upside down as they became 24-hour carers. Leo was in and out of hospital as a toddler, then just before his fourth Christmas, his health began to deteriorate rapidly. Within days of Make-A-Wish being contacted, Leo’s wish for an early Christmas surrounded by his family was made a reality, complete with a visit by Santa.
“Just days after Leo's early Christmas, he sadly passed away. Leo was only 4 years old."
Is the Cost of Living crisis still having an impact on the demand for help/fundraising?
“We know that the cost-of-living crisis will limit the number of donations that people are able to make, so we are incredibly grateful for all platforms where we can increase donations. Buying a Christmas gift through Savoo, will help support Make-A-Wish UK at no extra cost.
“A wish fulfilled by Make-A-Wish has the power to build resilience, strengthen bonds, and give hope to a child and their family when they need it the most. The children and families who want our support don’t have a lot of time to make lasting memories, so every donation we receive is a precious gift that will make a difference."
Does the festive period present any unique challenges for your charity?
“It's tough for us to stand out against other charities at this time of the year, but with around 57 children diagnosed with a critical illness every day, fundraising continues around the clock. Wishes granted by Make-A-Wish have proven physical and emotional benefits that can give a child better health outcomes and increase their chances for survival.
“Help us light up the darkness for critically ill children this Christmas. Sending a charity e-card is a quick and easy way to make a difference while spreading love to friends and family at this special time of year."
What ambitions does the charity have for the year ahead?
“We want to grant more wishes than ever before this year to help us reach our goal of granting a wish for every eligible child. It's an ambitious target, but we are confident that with the generosity of the public we can get there.
“Next year, Make-A-Wish will be getting support from people running the TCS London Marathon and the Great North Run. Registration for the latter is still open if you would like to become a #WishHero in the 2024 Great North Run. You can also stay up to date with the latest Make-A-Wish news via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram."
Savoo will donate 10% of our organic revenue on every discount code to Make-A-Wish from the 20th to the 26th of November 2023. Next week there will be another charity that you can donate to at no extra cost to you.
