What is Alzheimer's Disease?
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, an umbrella term for a range of conditions that cause progressive decline in brain function, affecting memory, thinking, and communication. Other types of dementia impact the brain in different ways. Meanwhile, frontotemporal dementia (FTD) primarily affects the frontal and temporal lobes, initially causing personality changes and difficulties with language.
Each form of dementia progresses differently, making early diagnosis and tailored care essential. While dementia is often associated with older age, an estimated 70,800 people in the UK are living with the condition before the age of 65, highlighting that it can affect younger individuals too.
