The aims and objectives of Charcot-Marie-Tooth include:

  • To offer assistance and support to people who have Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease.
  • To initiate, co-ordinate, promote and support research into CMT and its effects.
  • To stimulate medical education on the subject of CMT.
  • To offer assistance and support to those who care for people who have CMT.
  • To spread awareness of the condition to health professionals and the general public.

There are over 100 variations of CMT and people can be affected very differently, even those with the same type of CMT. CMT is also known as Hereditary Motor and Sensory Neuropathy or Peroneal Muscular Atrophy, and it is the most common inherited neurological disease in the world. Despite the charity being so small, Charcot-Marie-Tooth already have two people working there who have the condition, and this organisation is the only charity dedicated to CMT in the UK.

CMT Kids

CMT Kids includes a group of young people who all share a very significant part of their lives – having CMT. The group’s aim is to help young individuals who suffer from CMT: whether you have just been diagnosed, are a long term sufferer, a parent/family member or even a sibling. The group offers support and welcomes others who share this disability to let them know they are not alone, and that ‘together we are stronger’.
